Emily Elizabeth Thomas is a New York-based writer/director. She was raised in Austin, TX and proudly maintains a strong presence in the Texas film community. A true Texan at heart, Emily brings authentic Southern grit to every project.
Emily got her start in filmmaking at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was formally trained in screenwriting and 16mm film. She then went on to earn an interdisciplinary Master of Arts degree from New York University. Emily’s work has been award winning at festivals such as The Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival and Oslo Independent Film Festival, and has been featured by Milk Studios, We Are Moving Stories, The Victoria Advocate, Film Threat, and more.
The pillars of Emily’s work as a creative are her extensive writing training which makes concept creation part of the fabric of her creative practice, her keen eye for color and style, and her studied understanding of the acting process. Emily is most passionate about raw and truthful storytelling which celebrates the complexity of womanhood, and the true grit of the human condition.
